The AUGUST FULL MOON is on Tuesday, August 20, 2013 at 7:44PM MST.
This month, I am sharing an excellent article on the current Full Moon themes written by astrologer Sarah Varcas in Wales, UK. It can be found on the website www.astro-awakenings.co.uk . Enjoy!
Diving in Hot Water
At the beginning of August I spoke about the Jupiter/ Uranus/ Pluto T Square which forms a backdrop throughout this month, helping us connect with our own power in the face of conditions which threaten to weaken and discourage us. Bringing to mind that old saying which likens us to a tea-bag, 'You only know how strong you are once you're in hot water', this configuration provides the hot water with which to reveal the extent of our inner strength and resolve. In that respect the past couple of weeks have been pretty warm and many of us are certainly feeling the heat!
However, the North Node now offers some additional support, providing an opportunity to bring into awareness an aspect of our current situation which has previously proved elusive in our attempts to find a positive way through. What's more, it is committed to doing so for the rest of this month so we have a reliable ally to work with now.
In Scorpio, the North Node insists that we seek hidden truths and concealed information in order to move forward. It's no good scanning the surface when the obstacle we face is submerged beneath it. We must be prepared to dive into the less conscious realms of our psyche in order to uncover the things which are really holding us back.
Failure to do so in the coming days will mean an opportunity missed, because come the Blue Moon on 20th/21st August, we have an opportunity to release hooks and anchors that have weighed us down and held us tight for far too long, but we need to know what they are in order to let them go. This must be a conscious farewell, not one undertaken in a fog of confusion. The North Node in Scorpio wants the hard cold facts of the matter offered up in full awareness, not a vague sense of 'well I know something needs to be released so I'll just ask that it be gone, whatever it is'.
We may find this process to be more of a challenge than we first anticipate. Whatever we think the issue is, there's more to be revealed and it's more about us and how we function, about the contribution we've made to the conditions in which we now find ourselves. It may require a greater willingness to take responsibility for our lives than we have ever managed before. We may balk at the prospect, but even then it's still worth doing if we can manage it. We can't skirt around the edges anymore. It's time to grit our teeth and cowboy-up, claiming the power that is ours by birth and recognising where we have misused it to keep ourselves frozen and stuck in old conditions that do nothing but sap our energy and dull our spirit.
The energy radiating through the charts today is forceful. It won't be ignored. It is the power of confrontation, of revolution. It demands that we rise up against everything within us that we have allowed to hold sway in our lives and keep us down. And it reminds us that the extent to which we identify with our problems and feed off our own suffering reflects the extent to which we will resist this energy and its demands in the coming days.
There's no more time for self-pity or blaming others. There's no more room for regrets and 'if onlys'. Life happens here and now and nowhere else, ever. And this week the cosmos wants us fully present to recognise that fact and act accordingly. It reminds us that in this present moment exists everything we need, and the deeper our insight into what that truly means the greater our ability to recreate each moment afresh, unhindered by past conditions or fear of future failures.
Here's wishing everyone an insightful and liberating week!

Major planet movements during August 2013.
* The month starts off with the Sun in Leo, and ends it with the Sun in Virgo. The Sun moves into Virgo on August 23, at 5 PM MST in Denver, Colorado.
* Saturn spends the entire month of August between 5 and 6 degrees of Scorpio. Saturn stationed direct at 4 Scorpio 49 on July 9th.
Saturn represents the taskmaster and teacher influences in our lives. When Saturn is active, we are held more accountable, and suffer consequences for ignoring needs and responsibilities. We are called to take stock of our lives and make changes oriented towards efficiency and practicality. However, where we have been diligent, Saturn provides us with respectability and a good reputation. Saturn can make us more serious emotionally, or even depressed. We can also find ourselves taking pride in our achievements when the time is appropriate. It's a good time to focus on consciously appreciating what brings us joy and cheer.
* Sun aspects to Saturn during August: sextile on August 30.
* Major Moon aspects to Saturn during August: trine on Aug 4, square on Aug 6, conjunct on Aug 13, square on Aug 20, trine on Aug 22, oppose on Aug 26, trine on Aug 31.
* Uranus spends the month in retrograde motion between 12 and 11 degrees of Aries. (Uranus stationed retrograde at 12 Aries 31 on July 18th.)
Uranus in Aries represents fiery change, where enthusiasms and energy are expressed in a fiery manner. Increasing independence, tendency towards rebelliousness and revolution, and amazing insights and inventions are some of the themes indicated by Uranus. The current rash of shootings, rebellions, and agitation for change worldwide all suggest Uranus' influence.
Uranus is in square aspect to Pluto between 2011 and 2015 continuously. Aspects from the planets to Uranus and/or Pluto trigger this combination. Pluto intensifies Uranus' themes, adding elements of crisis and gravity to situations.
* Sun aspects to Uranus during August: trine on Aug 5.
* Major Moon aspects to Uranus during August: square on Aug 4, trine on Aug 7, opposition on Aug 11, trine on Aug 16, square on Aug 18, conjunct on Aug 24, square on Aug 31.
* Neptune spends the month in retrograde motion at 4 and 3 degrees of Pisces, its home sign.
Neptune is the planet of dreams and illusions, and of the need to seek for clarity. Sometimes Neptune makes it easier for us to reach to the divine. Certain positions of Neptune when compared to the natal chart also indicate emotional vulnerability and a strong artistic bent. On a worldly level, Neptune supports themes of watery events and catastrophes, as well as oil finds.
Neptune is in a trine aspect with Saturn in water signs for several months, which enhances both positive and negative aspects related to watery and emotional events and the loosening and/or weakening of structures. Dreams and ideals can be articulated more easily as well. Days when the Sun or Moon are aspecting Neptune or Saturn are days when the Saturn-Neptune trine is triggered.
* Sun aspects to Neptune during August: opposition on Aug 27
* Major Moon aspects to Neptune during August: square on Aug 1, trine on Aug 4, opposition on Aug 9, trine on Aug 13, square on Aug 15, conjunct on Aug 21, trine on Aug 31.
* Pluto spends the month in retrograde motion at 9 degrees of Capricorn. (It will station direct at 9 degrees of Capricorn on September 21.)
Pluto is the planet of transformation, chaos, resentments, and empowerment. Power struggles with others or within oneself are often indicative of Pluto's touch. Increasing governmental impacts are also indicated by Pluto. Extreme overturning of the status quo is also represented by Pluto.
Currently, Pluto is in a multi-year square with Uranus. Uranus adds the element of surprise and unexpected turns of events to the crisis themes that Pluto can represent. Dates when the Sun or Moon are aspecting either Pluto or Uranus are triggering this square. During these times, expect to witness violent and sudden change and revolution on many levels, geological, social, governmental, economic, and even scientific inventiveness and musical breakthroughs.
* Sun aspects to Pluto during August: quincunx on Aug 1.
* Major Moon aspects to Pluto during August: opposition on Aug 4, trine on Aug 9, square on Aug 11, conjunct on Aug 18, square on Aug 24, trine on Aug 26, opposition on Aug 31.
* Jupiter spends the month between 8 and 14 degrees of Cancer.
Jupiter is expansiveness, often indicates optimism and grandness, and represents teaching and philosophy. Jupiter is considered to be a beneficial planet, the 'Santa Claus' of the zodiac. However, all may not always be happiness, because Jupiter also expands negative influences when it is aspecting difficult planetary configurations.
* Sun aspects to Jupiter during August: none
* Major Moon aspects to Jupiter during August: conjunct on Aug 4, square on Aug 11, trine on Aug 14, opposition on Aug 18, trine on Aug 22, square on Aug 24.

* A note about aspects:
* Challenging aspects are squares, oppositions, quincunxes, and some conjunctions (aka conjoins). During these times, life can be more difficult. Obstacles arise, tensions develop, and the driving need for action and solutions is a strong motivator.
* Flowing and easy aspects include trines, sextiles, and some conjunctions. During these times, relationships and activities just seem to work - for better or worse. A happy time is made happier by these aspects, a difficult time can be even more difficult if the energies support it! But generally trines and conjunctions strengthen the themes of current relationships or activities and help gifts to unfold within them. At these times it is helpful to us to recognize these gifts as they manifest!
